In a show of solidarity with keyworkers and the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic- as well asproviding something for the mainland children to spot, islanders painted and placed a giant slate rainbow at the north end of Kerrera.
This was a lovely community project for families to engage with during the Lockdown- each colour of the rainbow was painted by a different family, so that we could all work separately, but create the beautiful giant rainbow together. Huge thanks to New Reflexions at Ardchoirc who donated over 100 slates. Massive thanks too to all who helped to move the slates, clean and paint them and then to lay them all out on the hill.
The Isle of Kerrera Development Trust were delighted to coordinate hampers of local produce for all residents of Kerrera. Thanks to the Corra Foundation Community Wellbeing Fund, IKDT are supporting local producers such as Balliemore and Ardentrive Farms, Sea Tea (Rowan Glen), Kerrera Tea Garden, Highland Fold Ice Cream and Bonny Island Soaps. This hamper, giving a helping hand to residents on the island during lockdown, will include organic tea, cake, homemade soap, ice cream and a selection of island meat. The funding also contributed to other costs incurred during the pandemic such as fuel for shopping/prescription collections, paint for the rainbow project, coordinating local sewers for PPE and Project Manager staff time. While we all have to keep our distance and stay apart- we hope these hampers serve as a welcome reminder that we are all connected and that the community and the IKDT are here to support each other.
Here are Gill and Karen getting everything ready for delivery- thanks to all involved.
